Carmelo Rivera gives Puerto Rico the first medal at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games

The boricua Carmelo Rivera gave the island its first Parapan American medal this Tuesday by winning bronze in the 1,500 meters T-20 in the Santiago 202 Parapan American Games3.

Rivera won the bronze medal in para-athletics by clocking 4:13.36.

The gold was won by the Colombian Samuel Guarin with 4:10.71. Meanwhile, the silver went to the Canadian Michael Barber when recording 4:11.99.

The T-20 category corresponds to athletes who suffer from intellectual weakness.

The Pan American Games began on Friday, November 17 and end on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

Puerto Rico brought to the Parapan American Games a delegation of 25 para-athletes – 20 men and five women – who compete in nine sports: athletics, judo, swimming, wheelchair basketball, pneumatic shooting, archery, table tennis, parapowerlifting and taekwondo .
