Cowboys announce signing of Chinanu Onuaku to replace center Wenyen Gabriel

The Nigerian Ancestry Center Chinanu Onuaku will join the ranks of the Bayamon Cowboys replacing South Sudanese Wenyen Gabrielwho will report to the practices of the national basketball team of his country in view of his participation in the Paris Olympics 2024.

The 27-year-old, 6′10″ tall, 255-pound reinforcement comes from playing a large part of the current season of the National Superior Basketball (BSN) with the Santeros of Aguada. He averaged 16.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 0.8 blocks while shooting 52.4 percent from the field in 21 games. He was replaced on that team by John Meeks.

“Onuaku is a player with extensive international experience who comes from playing in the ACB league in Spain and was previously active in the NBA and in leagues in Italy, Israel, Korea and Croatia, being Most Valuable Player in Israel in 2022. He is a player of strength, defensive and rebounder who should help us immediately in the paint,” said Bayamon general manager, Wilfredo Pagan, through a press release.
