The national champions Guaynabo Mets They took away the undefeated on Saturday from the Yauco coffee growers in a match that extended to five sets at the Mario “Quijote” Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, in the culmination of the round robin series of the Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM).
The Mets scored the victory with scores of 25-18, 14-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 15-10 over Yauco.
At the end of the series, the Mets and Cafeteros finished with the same record of 3-1, but Yauco took first place in Group B by goal average.
For the champions, Josue Rivera stood out with 21 points, 17 in attacks and four in blocks. Christian Encarnacion followed him with 17 points, 16 in attacks and a block; and Fabian Rohena with 10 points, six in attacks, three blocks and one ace.
Carlos Negron, from Yauco, scored 14 points, eight in attacks, four blocks, and two aces; and Javier Rodriguez also contributed 14 points, all in attacks.
Semifinals ready
After concluding the quarterfinals, the semifinal series will present the Caribes of San Sebastian (1A) against the champions Mets (2B), and the Cafeteros (1B) against the national runners-up Naranjito Changos (2A).
The semifinals will begin this Wednesday with both series in action at 8:00 p.m.
Guaynabo will be at the Luis Aymat Cardona Coliseum in San Sebastian; and the Cafeteros will visit the Changos, who will announce on Monday the field they will use for the semifinal.
The tournament director, Atty. Jaime Vazquez Morales will announce the complete schedule of the 2023 semifinal on Sunday, the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation.
