Boston- Jayson Tatum scored 35 points and sparked a third-quarter comeback as the NBA-leading Boston Celtics earned their 40th win of the season, beating the Washington Wizards 133-129 on Friday.
Kristaps Porzingis added 34 points and 11 rebounds for the Celtics (40-12), who reached 40 wins in the shortest time during a season since the 2008-2009 team did it in 49 games. It was the twentieth game this season in which Tatum has scored at least thirty points.
Deni Avdija had 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Corey Kospert added 24 for the Wizards, who have lost five in a row. Bilal Coulibaly finished with 21 points.
The Wizards put up a fight all night. They made 20 of 47 triples.
They had an eight-point lead in the third quarter and closed to 131-127 in the final minute. However, Boston managed to end the match from the penalty line.
