Joel Embiid scores 38 points in Philadelphia’s victory against the Hawks

Philadelphia- Joel Embiid scored 38 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and shook off an injury scare in the final minutes, as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Atlanta Hawks, 125-114, on Friday.

Tyrese Maxey added 30 points, including a backbreaking 3-pointer with 1:20 left in a 13-0 run that broke a back-and-forth game just two minutes earlier as the Sixers (14-7) earned their second straight victory.

De’Andre Hunter led the Hawks (9-12) with 24 points, while Bogdan Bogdanovic and Dejounte Murray both finished with 20 points. Atlanta played without Trae Young, who missed the game due to what the team described as an ailment.

Embiid appeared to injure his left leg while driving down the lane with more than four and a half minutes left, when he tried to make a move in that area when Atlanta led 109-108.

Even while bent over and limping, Embiid continued to play and scored six points in the final stretch, grabbing two rebounds in that span. Maxey and De’Anthony Melton contributed more to the score during the run that tipped the game towards Philadelphia.

Melton finished with 15 points and Tobias Harris added another 13 for the Sixers.

Saddiq Bey had 16 points for Atlanta, while Clint Capela added 15 and had the most rebounds with a total of 16.
