Martin Maldonado on the hit by Adolis Garcia: “The worst thing he did was wake up the Houston Astros”

Arlington —The launcher of the Houston Astros Bryan Abreu and manager Dusty Baker were ejected from Game 5 of the American League Championship Series after the reliever hit Texas Rangers’ Adolis Garcia with a pitch in the eighth inning on Friday, causing that the benches cleared two innings after the slugger’s go-ahead home run.

Garcia was also sent off by the referees during a confrontation that caused a 12-minute delay.

Houston trailed 4-2 at the time, but rallied for a 5-4 victory and a 3-2 series lead thanks to Jose Altuve’s three-run homer in the ninth inning off Jose Leclerc.

Following Evan Carter’s walk, Garcia was hit in the upper left arm by a 98.9 mile per hour fastball and immediately spun into the Puerto Rican catcher’s face. Martin Maldonado.

Garcia dropped his bat and shook his right index finger in Maldonado’s face as plate umpire Marvin Hudson stopped the slugger. Garcia managed to extend his left arm over the referee and push Maldonado’s right shoulder.

Both the benches and the bullpens cleared and players from both sides surrounded each other at home plate. Garcia was restrained by Houston’s Yordan Alvarez and his Rangers teammates.

The referees met and sent off Abreu and Garcia. Baker walked in front of the Astros dugout with his arms open and struck up an animated conversation with three officials. Baker threw his cap and was then ejected as well. The 74-year-old continued arguing from the sidelines with Hudson for six minutes before heading to the clubhouse.

The Rangers led 4-2 after Garcia’s three-run homer in the sixth inning. He took 16 steps up the line while watching the ball and beating his chest, and was more than halfway to first when he empathetically slammed his bat and began to jog.

After the meeting, Maldonado spoke about the incident with Garcia on the Fox Sports panel.

“He told me it couldn’t be like that. I told him, “bro, we were down by two. “We are not trying to hit anyone, we have a chance to come back in this game.” “I know he was upset because he hit a home run last at-bat and could have done something in this one, but the worst thing he did was wake up the Astros.”declared Maldonado.

On July 26 in Houston, Alvarez was hit by a pitch just after Alex Bregman hit a home run in the first inning of that regular series finale, and Texas’ Marcus Semien took a retaliatory hit in the third.

Semien hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fourth inning and exchanged words with Maldonado. An inning later, Semien scored on a grand slam by Garcia, who was face to face with the catcher when the benches cleared, although no punches were thrown.
