Paris- The mayor of ParisAnne Hidalgo, confirmed this Wednesday that the Seine River will be suitable for bathing in the Olympic Gameswith the triathlon tests scheduled between July 20 and August 5, and that she will take a dip herself.
“In July I will bathe in the Seine”explained the councilor, who highlighted that the sanitation works to ensure that the waters of the river that crosses Paris allow bathing are going in the right direction and could be finished before the start of the Games.
“Everyone said it was impossible and we have done it,” said Hidalgo in a speech at the beginning of the year before his councilors.
The mayor recalled that 30 years ago the incumbent, Jacques Chirac, had already made that promise to the citizens, before renouncing it.
In addition, he pointed out that starting in 2025, Parisians will be able to bathe regularly in the river, almost 100 years after this activity was prohibited due to the poor quality of the water.
Hidalgo pointed out that the Games will be “a party” and will leave “a great mark on the city” that will take advantage of the event to accelerate many of the transformations undertaken years ago.
“The lives of Parisians will change even faster”said the mayor, who insisted that the Games will be ecological, with 55% less emissions than those in London.
