The Atenienses of Manati defeated the Pinkin de Corozal in four sets on Friday to remain leaders of the Superior Women’s Volleyball League (LVSF) table.
At the Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu Coliseum in Manati, the winning scores were 26-24, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-21.
Captain Karla Santos dominated the Athenian offense with 22 points. She was followed by Taylor Borup with 18 points and Zoe Weatherington with 13 points.
In a losing cause, Dominican reinforcement Yanlis Feliz contributed 21 points and Emma Clothier 16 points.
Manati added three points for a total of 20, one more than the Santurce Cangrejeras, who defeated the Guaynabo Mets in another duel of the day.
Santurce defeated Guaynabo 25-12, 25-13 and 25-21.
Santurce’s Turkish reinforcement, Yeliz Basa, scored 20 points and Czech Helena Havelkova scored 13 points.
Center back Neira Ortiz did not play in the duel.
Import Haley Bush scored 12 points for the Mets.
On the other hand, the Criollas de Caguas scored an important victory in three sets against the Changas de Naranjito to climb to third place in the table.
The Creole sextet won with sets of 25-20, 25-23 and 26-24.
For the Criollas, Nia Parker-Robinson led the offense with 16 points. Chareika Carrion and Treyaunna Rush contributed eight points each.
For Naranjito, which remains in the basement with 7-1 tied with the Mets, the best scorer was the American Adana Rollins.
The action continues on Saturday when the Mets visit the Criollas at the Roger Mendoza field in Caguas, at 8:00 pm. A second game, at the same time, will be the so-called Mountain Duel” between the Changas and the Pinkin in the Jose “Pepin” Cestero de Bayamon court.
