120 charges filed against woman who kept hundreds of cats under overcrowding and with serious injuries in Anasco

After authorities rescued more than a hundred abused cats in September, the judge Luis Padilla Galianoof the Court of First Instance of Mayaguez, found on Friday cause for arrest against Erica M. Ericksonwho kept the felines in his residence under poor health and overcrowding in the Playa neighborhood, in Anasco.

“Empathy towards animals is a value that must be taught and encouraged in all Puerto Rican homes. In many cases, these become part of the family nucleus. Every person who has animals must provide them with the care and attention they require with sensitivity and responsibility.“said the Secretary of Justice, Domingo Emanuelli Hernandezin a press release.

Erickson, 40, is charged with the crimes of animal abuse and neglect under articles 3(a), 5(a) and 6(a) of the Law for the Welfare and Protection of Animals (Law 154 of 2008).

The case had its origin when members of the Playa neighborhood community filed several complaints with the Health Department and the Police Bureauafter finding dead animals and excessive garbage around the defendant’s residence, which also gave off a strong stench.
