Between January 15 and April 15, the People’s Democratic Party (PPD) and the New Progressive Party (PNP) presented 2,901 challenges against voters, but only 1,121, or 38.64%, were declared “in place” after the corresponding judicial process was carried out, according to preliminary data provided by the State Election Commission (EEC).

The figure is higher than that recorded in the entire four-year period from 2017 to 2020, when there were only 101 recusals, but lower than that of a few decades ago.

“I think these are low numbers. They don’t resemble the numbers that one saw around 2000,” he said. Manuel Alvarez Riveraadvisor to the CEE, as well as owner and administrator of the page electionspuertorico.orgwhich documents local and international electoral events.
