The national 3×3 basketball teams debuted with resounding victories at the start of the competitions on Saturday in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
The men’s trio, defending silver medalists at Lima 2019, had no problems against Trinidad and Tobago, winning 21-6 during the night match.
Jorge Matos was the best for the Puerto Ricans with nine points. Guillermo Diaz had six goals, Leandro Allende four and Adria Ocasio two.
The group returns to the field on Sunday against the Dominican Republic at 2:30 pm for a place in the quarterfinals.
First thing in the morning, the Puerto Rican women’s team made up of Mari Placido, Ashley Torres, Paola Maldonado and Annelisse Vargas defeated the Jamaican team 22-11.
Placido and Torres were the best with eight units each.
Placido finished the game with a double basket with 59 seconds left of the 10 minutes assigned to the action.
The team will seek a place in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 1:00 pm against Venezuela.
