88 agents are promoted to the rank of captain and thus join the “senior management” of the Police

A group of 88 members of the Police Bureau were promoted this Monday to the rank of captain, through rigorous exams – a practice that had not been carried out since 2015 – in a ceremony headed by the governor Pedro Pierluisi.

Eighty-eight first lieutenant agents are promoted to the rank of captain, joining the Bureau’s senior management. Likewise, we will have three new second lieutenants and nine sergeants,” said the governor during the ceremony, held at the Puerto Rico Lottery theater.

One of the main statements of the Federal Court, as part of the so-called police reform, is that The Uniformed Forces lack officers in supervisory positions.

The rank of captain is supervisory, highlighted the Police Commissioner, Antonio Lopez. “This rank represents the entry of a police officer into the senior management of the Uniformed Police. These acquire responsibility for supervision, operation and administration, such as the direction of barracks, precincts, districts, units and divisions within the Police. “These promotions are vital to maintain work efficiencies and compliance with the Reform, which requires promoting promotion opportunities and supervision of work within the Police Bureau,” he said.
