“A blank ballot is a wasted vote”: Jenniffer Gonzalez defends the “local” plebiscite in the July 4 ceremony

Barranquitas – The president of the New Progressive Party (PNP) and candidate for governor, Jennifer Gonzalez, effusively defended this Thursday, Independence Day of the United States, the status query which will take place alongside the general elections in November, amid criticism from the political opposition about the significance of this exercise.

“The fact that the PPD (Popular Democratic Party) leadership is opposing it today is the best example of the hypocrisy with which they are going to Congress. (…) Now, when a local plebiscite is called, which has the same definitions (of status as projects before Congress), they now oppose it. (…) A blank ballot is a wasted vote.“said the Resident Commissioner, in an aside with journalists, after leading the events commemorating the 248th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, at the Barranquitas Reception Center.

The PPD Governing Board decided on Wednesday night to urge its supporters to protest vigorously against the “local” plebiscite, by depositing the blank ballot in the ballot boxes on November 5. The Pava leadership criticized the fact that the election will not include the alternative “to maintain and improve the Free Associated State” (ELA), and described the consultation as “a political favor” to Gonzalez to distract the electorate from the problems that plague the country.
