“A Quiet Place” has a strong start, but fails to surpass “Inside Out 2”

“A Quiet Place: Day One” is shaking up the box office. The prequel grossed approximately $53 million in its first weekend in theaters in the United States and Canada, according to studio estimates released Sunday.

It’s both the best-performing film in the franchise and a lot more money than expected. Going into the weekend, “Day One” was expected to debut with $40 million, but audiences were clearly more excited to see the action-horror film starring Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn and distributed by Paramount. The same cannot be said of “Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 1”by Kevin Costner, which only added $11 million on its opening weekend.

However, the good performance of “A Quiet Place” was not enough to put it at the top of the box office. That honor again went to Disney and Pixas giant “Inside Out 2,” which added about $57.4 million in its third weekend. in theaters, and surpassed the $1 billion mark internationally.
