Activists protest against the consumption of whale meat in Japan

Tokyo — Activists of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)the largest animal rights organization in the world, They gathered this Tuesday in front of whale meat vending machines in Tokyo to protest against its consumption.

Members of the organization, dressed in cow, pig and chicken costumes, held signs with the slogan “Every animal is someone, go vegan” and a plate with pieces of soy meat in front of an establishment where customers can choose between four vending machines different varieties of whale meat: in the form of a hamburger, seasoned with miso sauce, or accompanied by rice and curry, among others.

“They allow (the Japanese government) to hunt whales and many restaurants serve their meat. People who are not used to eating whale meat may want to try it and we want to stop that.“, the woman in charge of the protest, Laila Imai, explained to EFE, while offering “vegan whale meat” to passersby in the Tokyo district of Shinagawa.
