AEE awards contract for dredging design of six reservoirs

The Electric Power Authority (AEE) awarded the company AECOM Caribbean the $9.9 million contract for studies leading to the dredging of six of the 11 reservoirs that will undergo this process, with a view to returning their capacity to the levels they maintained before the passage of the hurricanes Irma and Mariain 2017.

The work of AECOM will cover the Lucchetti and Loco reservoirs (Yauco), Guayo (Lares), Guayabal (Juana Diaz), Matrullas and Guineo (Orocovis) and should last for about eight months..

As the design studies progress, the AEE will publish the auctions for the execution of the dredging, which would be grouped regionally for the purposes of the tender, the executive director of the public corporation, announced in a press conference, Joshua Columbusand the director of Hydroelectric Power, Jaime Umpierre.

On June 27, the AEE had announced that CSA Group would be in charge of the same tasks for five other reservoirs under its jurisdiction: Dos Bocas (Arecibo), Caonillas (Utuado), Guajataca (Quebradillas), Guerrero (Aguadilla) and Garzas (Adjuntas).
