All coastal towns in Puerto Rico will experience high heat indices

A heat warning will be issued to all the coastal municipalities of Puerto Rico, as well as the municipal islands of Vieques and Culebra, for this Monday, when heat indices between 108 to 111 degrees Fahrenheit could be experienced.

The heat indices are a measure of the thermal sensation in the region and are not the measure of the temperature that, according to the National Meteorological Service (SNM), will remain between the high 80s Fahrenheit (F) to the low 90s.

Heat indices will be fluctuating around 108 to 111 degrees. Occasionally, they may have slightly higher heat ratings. We will be monitoring these heat indices during the day to see what the pattern is like,” reported SNM meteorologist Mariangelis Marrero Colon, in an interview with The new day.

People are urged to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and, if they must carry out outdoor activities, to stay hydrated. Also, it is recommended to pay attention to children, older adults and pets.
