Appeals court again suspends Texas law that empowers police to detain migrants

A federal appeals court issued an order Tuesday night that once again prevents Texas from arresting migrants suspected of having entered the country illegally. The ruling came a few hours after the Supreme Court allowed the new immigration law to come into force.

The decision of Federal Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit It comes a few weeks after a panel of the same court cleared the way for Texas to enforce the law by suspending a lower judge’s order.

But In a 2-1 decision, the appeals court lifted that stay before the court hears arguments Wednesday..

Texas authorities had not announced any arrests under the new law.

Earlier on Tuesday, thanks to a split ruling, the United States Supreme Court allowed Texas implement a law that gives police broad powers to arrest migrants suspected of entering the country illegally in which the legal battle around the measure is resolved.
