Blackout leaves over 150,000 customers without electricity service in the regions of Bayamon, San Juan, Carolina and Caguas

A new blackout that affected the regions of Bayamon, San Juan, Carolina and Caguas currently keeps over 150,000 customers without electricity service, according to the service states portal of the LUMA Energy consortium.

The new blackout appears to be related to an event recorded during the afternoon in which units 5 and 6 of the San Juan plant, as well as several of the emergency generators installed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) later after the passage of Hurricane Maria, they went out of service, which caused another blackout that affected over 180,000 subscribers.

In the afternoon, the service status portal of LUMA Energy showed that as the afternoon wore on, the number of customers without service continued to decrease. Still, at 7:55 p.m., the region of San Juan showed over 37,000 subscribers without service. While, in Bayamon, over 12,000 subscribers remained without electricity. It is followed by the region of Caguas with over 5,000 clients affected.
