Besides of Christmas Bonuspublic employees will receive, in December, a special bonus as a result of the Debt Adjustment Plan of the central government, although, immediately, it is unknown how much it will amount to, the governor confirmed this Tuesday Pedro Pierluisi.
The payment of the special bonus is stipulated in the tax plan certificate, and this will be the second time that public employees will receive it.
“(The amount they will receive) depends on the surplus (of collections), and the surplus is measured based on what the fiscal plan provided, if I remember correctly, for 2020. The previous fiscal plan. A version of the previous tax plan. You measure it and see what surplus is available.”indicated Pierluisi to questions of The new day.
The first executive anticipated, however, that this second bonus will be less than the one granted in 2022. “Last year, we had a huge surplus,” he emphasized.
“This time, the surplus is not so big. That decision (about the amount to be paid) should be made sometime before December, because the ideal is for employees to receive that bonus before the Christmas season. They will have their Christmas bonus, as always, but they will also have, I hope, another bonus for this reason.”he explained.
In December 2022, 107,722 central government employees covered by the Adjustment Plan received a special bonus, which for some represented an extra payment of $2,954 and for others, $11,360. The latter were the workers affiliated with United Public Servants (SPU/AFSCME), who supported the Adjustment Plan.
Pierluisi indicated that, again, SPU/AFSCME union employees will receive a larger amount “by prior agreement”.
Last year, the government faced criticism over the disbursement because – by agreement with the Fiscal Oversight Board– was not distributed among taxpayers. Furthermore, since it was not for all public employees, some complained about not receiving it.
