Cleanup work at Condado lagoon could extend into late Friday night

The cleaning work of the spill occurred on Thursday in part of the San Juan Bay estuary, including Condado Lagoon, could extend this Friday, at least, until almost midnight, according to estimates from the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA).

The secretary of DRNA, Anais Rodriguez Vegahad indicated that the work could last about 24 hours, but, later, the agency warned, through its spokesperson, Aniel Bigiowhich could take about 32 hours, until approximately 11:00 p.m.

“The installation of the absorbent device in the water will determine when it ends”Bigio stressed, in written statements.

Rodriguez Vega had indicated earlier, also in writing, that the DRNA’s main focus is to address and mitigate the situation, and they have already ruled out that it is a “substantial spill.”

“After an evaluation, the presence of a substantial spill was not identified. However, Aware of the seriousness of any contamination, the DRNA activated its emergency fund to carry out the necessary cleanup process“said the official.
