Coast Guard repatriates 119 migrants detained in two interventions near Desecheo

The Coast Guard reported, on Monday, that it repatriated 119 migrants from the Dominican Republic last Friday, after carrying out interventions on two vessels.

In a press release, the US military agency indicated that the repatriated migrants were transferred to the Navy authorities of the Dominican Republic, in San Pedro de Macoris.

The first intervention occurred Wednesday, when a Customs and Border Protection marine unit stopped a 30-foot makeshift boat four nautical miles north of Desecheo Island.

Coast Guard watchdogs diverted the Coast Guard cutter Joseph Doyle, which arrived at the scene and embarked 58 migrants, of whom 56 claimed to be citizens of the Dominican Republic and two reported to be Haitian citizens.
