Colombia announces measures to avoid electricity rationing due to drought

The Colombian government announced surveillance and control measures on Thursday that seek to avoid electricity rationing when below-normal rainfall is expected and an additional delay in the recovery of the reservoirs that supply the country.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy indicated that it will reinforce the inspection and monitoring of electrical system agents, which includes visits to hydroelectric plants and thermal generators.

“Although we do not have an imminent risk of rationing, the increase in these conditions forces us to take structural reinforcement measures so that we do not reach any critical condition and we manage to overcome this period of the year without difficulties. El Nino phenomenonThe head of the agency, Andres Camacho, told the press.

Colombia has not ordered electricity rationing since 1992, after a drought caused by the El Nino phenomenon.
