He Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (Copur) announced on Monday afternoon the finalists by gender to be standard bearers of the Puerto Rican delegation, which will compete in the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.
They were chosen at the Executive Committee meeting 32 days before the opening of the most important sports event in the region, Copur revealed in a statement.
The chosen athletes were: Pamela Rosado (basketball), Maria Perez (judo), Yeziel Morales (Swimming), Melanie Diaz (table tennis) and Jean Pizarro (archery).
In the women’s branch, only five federations presented their candidates, while two federations did the same in the men’s field.
This will be the first time in the Pan American Games that two flag bearers will appear, complying with the rule stipulated by the International Olympic Committee to choose a man and a woman.
In the Lima 2019 edition, the Olympic wrestler Franklin Gomez was the standard bearer.
