“Despicable Me 4” takes first place at the box office

The animated film “Despicable Me 4” was the highest-grossing film this weekend in the United States, grossing $75 millionaccording to industry estimates released Sunday.

The Illumination Animation film carries a Total accumulated $122.6 million since it premiered on Wednesday.

While overall ticket sales were more than 40% below pre-pandemic levels, theaters are now showing a number of popular films as summer begins.

After “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” from Sony exceeded expectations, “Inside Out 2″ Pixar’s The Incredible Hulk quickly reached $1 billion in global ticket sales, becoming the first film since “Barbie” to reach that mark. Last weekend, Paramount’s prequel “A Quiet Place: Day One” also exceeded expectations.
