The fifth edition of “Frankie Ruiz Salsa Festival”, which this year commemorates the 25th anniversary of the departure of the salsa legend, will be celebrated this weekend at the Sultana of the West.
The free event promises a weekend of celebration for the salsa public, with activities that will serve as a prelude to starting the party. The “Frankie Ruiz Salsa Festival” It will take place on Sunday, September 10, 2023 starting at 11:00 am at the Frankie Ruiz Acoustic Shell of the Mayaguez Recreation and Sports Palace.
This edition will be dedicated to the singer Joey Hernandez, recognized for his great contributions to the salsa genre as a promoter, entertainer, announcer, educator and radio and television producer.
The musical offering will feature the participation of Moa Rivera, Sonora Poncena, Johnny Rivera, Michael Stuart and Luisito Carrion, Luis Enrique and Domingo Quinones.
Prior to the festival sponsored by the municipality of Mayaguez and its interim mayor, Jorge Luis Ramos Ruiz, the musical celebration will begin with cultural activities on September 8 and 9 at the Almirante Cristobal Colon Public Plaza.
On Friday, September 8, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm there will be a live broadcast of the radio program “La Manada de la Z”, with Bebe Maldonado, Cacique and Aniel Rosario.
Starting at 8:00 pm the public will be able to enjoy the musical participation of Joey Hernandez with Puerto Rico es Salsa, Frankie Ruiz, Jr., Moises Cancel with Manolo Lezcano and Luigi Texidor and Robert Burgos.
On Saturday, September 9, the party will begin at 8:00 p.m., also in the Almirante Cristobal Colon Public Square, and will be entertained by Nory Perez. Grupo Afinque (tribute to Johnny Pacheco), Puerto Rican Power and Viti Ruiz will perform on stage.
The “Frankie Ruiz Salsa Festival” is produced by Madera Events together with the Autonomous Municipality of Mayaguez. “We continue working on our commitment to bring the people an event of excellence, as they deserve,” said the interim mayor, Eng. Jorge Luis Ramos Ruiz.
