Driver arrested in fatal Florida crash consumed marijuana oil and took drugs before crash

Florida— A man with a long history of dangerous driving told investigators he had smoked marijuana oil and took prescription drugs hours before crash into a bus, killing eight Mexican farmworkers and injuring dozens more, according to an arrest report unsealed Wednesday.

Bryan Maclean Howard, 41, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence and manslaughter, and remained jailed without bail for Tuesday’s crash. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Howard was driving his 2001 Ford pickup truck in the center line on a two-lane highway and struck the bus, causing it to go off the road, crash into a tree, and roll over.

Farm workers headed out early in the morning to harvest watermelons at Cannon Farms in Dunnellon, about 80 miles northwest of orlandoin Marion County, north-central Florida, a rural, hilly area dotted with horse farms and fruit and vegetable fields.
