The Comptroller’s Office revealed that the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) had – as of 2022 – more than $18 million in federal funds that had not been disbursed for permanent improvement projects in 13 facilities of the National Parks Program.

In an audit report – which covers from August 2, 2018 to June 30, 2023 – published this Monday by the Comptroller’s Office, it was also determined that The operations related to the collections, registration, accounting and use of National Parks’ own funds “were not carried out in accordance with the applicable law and regulations”.

Among the allegations, the Comptroller’s Office identified disbursements of $272,339 that were not related to National Parks operations, such as monitoring bomb houses or installing a new propeller for an airplane owned by another program, according to the 33-page report. .
