Dust mass from the Sahara will affect Puerto Rico during the weekend

He National Weather Service (SNM) indicated on Thursday that a mass of Sahara dustclassified as moderate to severe, will affect Puerto Rico from Friday until at least Sunday morning.

According to the federal entity, the arrival of the particulate, which will also affect the American Virgin Islands, will cause hazy skies, reduced visibility and potential public health impacts.

The event comes after earlier this week, the Hurricane Beryl will pass near the archipelago, leaving rain and strong gusts of wind for some municipalities.

This also occurs after the passage of a weak tropical wave, identified as Invest 96L, which caused heavy rains and thunderstorms in some regions of the island on Thursday.

According to the World Health Organization, the arrival of Sahara dust can cause the appearance of allergies and asthma attacks. Also, some people may experience irritation of the nose, throat, eyes and skin.

Given this situation, the SNM and the Health Department As preventive measures, they recommend that citizens stay hydrated, wear thin clothing, avoid outdoor activities, and wear a mask and glasses.
