San Juan – The Puerto Rican urban artist Eladio Carrion pledged to match pay of $50,000 that the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (Copur) will give to any athlete from the island who wins a gold medal in the Paris Olympics.

“If @comiteolimpicopur puts them in the running, I’ll match them,” said Carrion, a former swimmer who represented Puerto Rico in international competitions, in a story on his Instagram account.

Carrion’s commitment comes a couple of days after the president of Copur, Sara Rosario, announced that the sports organization will grant $50,000 to each athlete from the Puerto Rican delegation who wins a gold medal in Paris.

Likewise, the Copur will give $30,000 to each of the 51 athletes who win a silver medal and $20,000 for each bronze medal.

These sums of money were also proposed by Copur for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Only sprinter and Paris 2024 flag bearer Jasmine Camacho-Quinn pocketed the $50,000 by winning gold in the 100-meter hurdles.
