Energy Bureau questions investment sources for conversions to natural gas proposed by Genera PR

Generate PR asked the Energy Bureau (NEPR) more time to respond to the agency’s questions regarding the proposal to switch seven generating units to the use of natural gasas well as the information requirements on the financing and ownership of the projects presented.

In the information request it issued on Thursday, the NEPR stated that Genera had provided “conflicting information” in relation to the “capital investments” necessary to carry out the conversions, which would include the four units of the Mayaguez plant and three portable megagenerators installed at the Palo Seco plant (Toa Baja). Currently, these units generate power based on diesel.

The NEPR, in the resolution and order, granted Genera until this Tuesday to answer the questions.

Specifically, the regulatory body noted that, in response to a prior information request, the company had stipulated that, “following the provisions of the GOMA (generation fleet operation and maintenance agreement), Genera or its affiliate will purchase and install the components without resorting to the operating budget”.
