ExpoArte returns to San Sebastian

With the participation of forty plastic artists, the Pepiniana House of Culture (CPC), from San Sebastian, presented, since Friday, the exhibition ExpoArte in the Pedro Tomas Labayen Municipal Exhibition Hall.

ExpoArte has works focused on painting, engraving, drawing and photography along with the participation of students from public and private schools participating in the Drawing and Painting Contest offered by the CPC.

For his part, the president of the Pepiniano cultural collective, Luis Joel Perez Rodriguez, highlighted that this edition will be dedicated to the mixed media artist, Sandra Yanice Perez Quintana.

“ExpoArte resurfaces as part of the celebration of the birth of the Pepiniano painter Ramon Soto Rios, one of the founding members of Casa Pepiniana de la Cultura. Perez Quintana, who is based in Goshen, Indiana, joins the distinguished list of Pepinianos and Pepinianas to whom ExpoArte has been dedicated,” added Perez Rodriguez.

Perez Quintana has stood out in the diaspora for having a great reception in the Hispanic community and his artistic works focused on highlighting the qualities of women.

“As a Puerto Rican artist I have had a great reception among the Mexican and African-American community and I have participated in several events that are aimed at honoring that culture in the United States. That is why my presentation at ExpoArte is titled My World Within Another, since I continue to be and want to continue representing my people, my culture and my beliefs as a Puerto Rican daughter,” explained the plastic artist about her pieces that will be exhibited until January 19, 2024.

ExpoArte, a name given since 2010, arises from the Exhibition of Paintings by Pepiniano Artists created by Pedro Tomas Labayen in 1974. Although the cultural project was active for several decades, it resurfaced as an initiative of the CPC in 2010.

Since 2010, ExpoArte has recognized the career and talent of local artists such as Ramon Soto Rios, Orlando Nunez Morales, Fidel Soto and Alicia Maury.
