Federal Prosecutor’s Office recommends 20 years in prison for Felix Verdejo’s confessed accomplice

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office recommended a sentence of 20 years in prison for Luis Cadiz Martinezconfessed accomplice of the former boxer Felix Verdejo in the case related to the murder of Keishla Rodriguez Ortiz.

In a motion filed on Friday, prosecutors Jonathan Gottfried and Jeanette Collazo Ortiz acknowledged that the charges Cadiz Martinez faces carry a life sentence, like the sentence that was handed down to Verdejo.

However, the public prosecutor’s office recommended a reduction based on the “significant and timely cooperation” of Cadiz Martinez, who was a prosecution witness against Verdejo.

In that sense, he suggested a calculation that would expose him to a sentence of between 235 to 293 months in prison, with the recommendation of 240 months in prison, in addition to five years of supervised release.

Regarding his cooperation, prosecutors recalled that Cadiz Martinez testified for two and a half days, when he alleged that he met Verdejo in 2018 and that the boxer shared more with his brother in the Luis Llorens Torres residential complex. Also, he stated that Verdejo paid him to clean his car and used Cadiz’s room “to have sexual relations.”
