Federal prosecutors oppose granting additional time for Maria Milagros “Tata” Charbonier to surrender to prison

The federal prosecutor’s office opposed the postponement of the date scheduled for the former representative Maria Milagros “Tata” Charbonier surrender to enter prison.

In a motion presented to the judge on Wednesday Silvia Carreno Collthe Public Prosecutor argued against the former legislator’s request to postpone the date on which it must be delivered to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).

After handing down the sentence last May, Carreno Coll allowed Charbonier to begin serving his eight-year prison sentence at a later date to give him time to resolve personal and family matters. However, the defense reported that the Probation Office notified them that Charbonier was due to turn himself in on July 10, so they asked to be allowed to postpone the deadline, saying they are awaiting Carreno Coll’s response to the request to remain on bail during the appeal process of the verdict.
