Flight stopped at Luis Munoz Marin airport due to “bird ingestion” at takeoff

The takeoff this morning from flight number 2022 of the airline United Airlines, which departed from Luis Munoz Marin international airporthad to be aborted after several birds were sucked into one of the aircraft’s engines, reported Damarisse Martinez, press spokesperson for Aerostar Airport Holdings, a public-private alliance that manages the airport facilities.

The United Airlines flight to Washington Dulles, which took off at 7:25 in the morning on Wednesdayhad to be aborted after the incident where there were no reports of injuries.

“It was not like on other occasions when in flight a bird collides with the plane and causes damage to the fuselage, in this case it was on the runway, before takeoff, Some birds were sucked into the vortex produced by the engine and had to stop flying immediately.”Martinez explained.

The spokesperson indicated that Flight passengers must maintain communication with the airline to reschedule their flight..

Martinez explained that this type of incident is not very common in Puerto Rico as in other jurisdictions, but it has happened on other occasions.

There was only minor damage to the plane. “It doesn’t happen frequently, especially here in Puerto Rico, but it really is something that happens in all airports in the world.”said.

The spokesperson indicated that the airport will not take any special measures related to this event.
