Flights canceled and airport evacuated in Argentina due to bomb threat

Argentina – A bomb threat on Friday caused the suspension of several flights and the evacuation of part of the Buenos Aires airport facilities.

Airport police personnel were checking the facilities of the capital airport after the pre-boarding area had to be evacuated, an official from that force who was not authorized to speak on the record told The Associated Press.

The threat was received by the air station authorities through an anonymous message two days before the presidential elections and 48 hours after the US and Israeli embassies in Buenos Aires received false warnings of the presence of explosives, in the midst of the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

Reports from the official Telam news agency indicate that the intimidation referred to “flights” and did not specify whether they were planes that were about to take off or that were in the air and that at least six Aerolineas Argentinas operations are affected.

Meanwhile, planes that were close to landing were diverted to the Ezeiza international airport, on the outskirts of the capital.
