Florida: Tornado in Fort Lauderdale causes power outages and damage to several structures

The city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was hit on Saturday afternoon by an apparent tornado that left multiple people without power, but left no injuries or deaths, according to local authorities.

According to a report published by CBS News, the phenomenon developed over land west of Las Olas Boulevard and, as it gained strength, it made contact with some structures, power lines and boats anchored in the area. The tornado then began moving eastward until it reached the ocean.

“The public should be careful of debris or power lines on the ground”the city warned through a publication in X.

In some videos published on social networks, it was shown how a funnel cloud formed and caused an explosion as it continued its path towards the ocean.

Meteorological authorities, for their part, had issued a tornado warning for the city prior to the event.
