Forensic Sciences will have a solar microgrid to guarantee its operations in emergencies

Based on the experience of past atmospheric events and with a view to becoming an agency with energy resilience, the Institute of Forensic Sciences (ICF) announced this Friday the installation of a solar microgrid that will guarantee it to continue operating in future incidents and that will be built with $7.2 million granted through the Risk Mitigation Grant Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA, in English).

“The ICF needs to guarantee that it will operate continuously, even in the most adverse environmental circumstances. We all remember the Hurricane Maria (2017). At the time, the Institute had two generators, but there was a shortage of diesel; Replenishing them cost, every two to three days, $40,000, so, with this project solar panels, We will overcome all these difficulties and guarantee the continuation of operations”, said the executive director of the ICF, Maria Conte Millerat a press conference.

The project includes the installation of a grid-connected hybrid photovoltaic (PV) system, a 1,200-kilowatt generator, a 9,000-gallon fuel tank, and a battery energy storage system.
