Former NRA CFO sanctioned for embezzlement

NY – A former CFO of the National Rifle Association (NRA, in English) will be banned from handling money for any nonprofit company in New York for a decade, the state’s attorney general announced Tuesday.

Wilson “Woody” Phillips agreed to the ban in May, three months after a jury found him liable for a scheme to have the influential gun-owners organization fund the extravagant lifestyle of NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre.Details of the deal were not made public until Tuesday.

According to the agreement, Phillips will not be able to serve as a trustee of a nonprofit organization in New York State for 10 years and must undergo training before returning to that type of position. He must also pay $2 million to the NRA for his role in concealing and facilitating LaPierre’s extravagant spending on things like trips to exotic locations and flights on private jets and super yachts.
