Santiago, Chile – The Puerto Rican swimmer Kristen Romano finished in fourth position in the final of the 200 meters backstroke of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.
His finish time was two minutes, 14 seconds and 32 hundredths (2:14.32). It was a record higher than the 2:12.56 he did in this same event in the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023with which he won one of the three gold medals he won in the regional competition.
Swimming through lane 4, in a crowded Aquatic Swimming Center in this capital, Romano completed the first 50 meters in fourth position, as well as in the first 100 meters. She returned fourth for the last 50 meters and in that position she finished by touching the wall.
Romano had qualified for the final with the third best time of the preliminaries, a 2:15.05.
The gold and silver medal went to the Americans Helen Noble (2:08.03, Pan American record) and Reilly Tiltmann (2:12.79) and the bronze went to the Brazilian Alexia Tavares (2:13.31).
