NY – Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning on his second day in the majors this season and the New York Mets they came back to beat the 4-2 on Sunday St. Louis Cardinals and they avoided losing the series by sweep.

New York was 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position and down until the last strike when Harrison Bader’s single sent automatic runner DJ Stewart home from third base to tie the game.

Vientos, who hit a pinch-hit single in the ninth, drove a 1-2 pitch from Matthew Liberatore (0-1) past Michael Siani’s glove as it jumped over the fence in right field.

An animated Vientos raised his arm in celebration as he rounded the bases before being surrounded by his teammates at the plate.

Disappointed after being sent to the minors at the end of spring training, Vientos was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday after outfielder Starling Marte was placed on the bereavement list.
