Genera PR promises change in electricity generation capacity

Guayanilla The availability of the electricity generation fleet continued to decline at the end of the January to March quarter, as the period of highest energy consumption in the year approaches, but the head of Operations of Generate PR, Daniel Hernandez Moralesassured this Tuesday that the company will be able to complete the necessary repairs to dramatically increase production in the coming weeks.

The quarterly performance report LUMA Energy presented on Monday to Puerto Rico Energy Bureau It showed that, in March, the availability of the plants that Genera PR manages had been at 41%, compared to the 42% that had been reflected in December 2023, and below the 52% that was in June of last year.

Hernandez Morales announced, however, that, as soon as this weekend, unit #6 of the Costa Sur plant (Guayanilla) and unit #1 of the Aguirre plant (Salinas) could return to service.which together would add nearly 750 megawatts (MW) of capacity to the network, or about a quarter of the peak demand anticipated for the summer months.
