Genera PR proposes adding 565 megawatts to give stability to the electrical grid

Generate PR handed over this Monday to Puerto Rico Energy Bureau (NEPR) a “Electrical System Stabilization Plan”which largely includes the initiatives and work plans that have been made public and which, in general, contain strategies that would take at least until 2026 to materialize.

Among the exceptions is the installation of “supplementary” generating units, an alternative that, according to Genera PR, could be implemented before June 30, 2025, with the aim of adding a generating capacity of 565 megawatts (MW) to the fleet.

Since last year, Genera PR has insisted that the 350 MW temporary that the government has already acquired from the federal government are insufficient to provide the stability that the generation system needs, but, Until now, it had indicated that the additional production capacity should reach 700 MW, instead of the over 900 MW proposed by the Stabilization Plan..
