The government of Puerto Rico decreed three days of mourning for the death of the member of the Hall of Fame of baseball in Cooperstown Orlando “Peruchin” Cepedaso the flags of all government agencies will remain at half-mast from July 1 to 3, 2024.

The honor was announced this Monday through a press release signed by Governor Pedro Pierluisi, who highlighted the achievements of the former baseball player.

“On behalf of our people, we honor the memory of Orlando ‘Peruchin’ Cepeda, who brought glory to Puerto Rico with his exploits in sports, which took him to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown,” Pierluisi said in written statements. .

“Peruchin opened the doors to Major League baseball for black and Latino players. With his talent and tenacity he earned respect in difficult times as one of the best players of all time. Also, he demonstrated the ability to overcome adversity and reaffirm himself as an example for future generations. My condolences to his wife Nydia, his children Orlandito, Malcom, Ali and Carl, family and friends. May God give you peace and strength at this moment,” stated the Chief Executive.
