Anticipating the opposition of the Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF), the fiscal component of the government of Pedro Pierluisi this Monday rejected a Senate measure that seeks to reopen the door of the withdrawal incentivized nearly 7,000 public employees – aged 64 or older – in essential positions who were not able to benefit from the benefits of the canceled Law 80 of 2020.

In a public hearing of the Senate Government Commission, the directors of the Retirement Board and the Fiscal Agency Office of the Financial Advisory Authority and Tax Agency (Aafaf), Luis Collazo Rodriguez and Enrique Guzmanrespectively, also warned that in the Adjustment Plan -certified on June 5-, the Board included a list of measures that “impact” the government’s finances, among which is the Senate Bill (PS) 1451 under discussion.

“We are committed to supporting measures that are legally and fiscally viable for the benefit of our public servants. However, it is necessary to highlight that the government of Puerto Rico is prevented from adopting, implementing or enforcing any statute, resolution, policy or rule that may undermine or nullify the purposes of (the law) Promesa.“said Collazo Rodriguez.
