Government issues $103 million for PAN recipients in September

The governor Pedro Pierluisi announced this Monday the issuance of $103 million in funds from the Nutrition Assistance Program (PAN) corresponding to September, money that comes from the redistribution of resources before the close of the federal fiscal year and that represents a 55% increase in the benefit for this month.

The chief executive reported, through a press release, that The money is already reflected in the accounts of program participants and is available starting today, Monday, on the ordinary dates on which recipients receive aid. In the federal government, the fiscal year ends on September 30.

Pierluisi specified that older adults participating in the PAN will receive a higher percentage of their benefits, as will the residents of Vieques and Culebra. For those over 60 years of age, the maximum benefit this month amounts to $288, while residents of the municipal islands will get $306 and, if they are over 60 years of age, the amount will be $339.

The president also detailed that the benefit, in September, for a family whose composition is a single person, will be $255, while with four members they will receive a maximum of $854.

“Providing this assistance to the most vulnerable and also to those who continue to train and seek opportunities for advancement is an essential part of our public policy. Each of these families will have approximately 55% more in their monthly benefits for the month of September. This is an important help to ensure that they maintain good health and well-being.“said the governor.

Currently, the PAN program supports 755,163 families on the island. Of that number, there are 404,276 adults over 60 years of age, 216,193 people who report income from work and 83,544 citizens with a disability.

The designated secretary of the Family, Cieni Rodriguez Trocheassured that “the redistribution of funds is one of the great advantages of the food assistance program.”
