Grenada needs everything “for a human being to survive,” PM tells UN

United Nations – He Prime Minister of the two islands of Grenade which were the first to be hit by the catastrophic winds of the Hurricane Beryl He sent a simple and forceful message to United Nations and other humanitarian authorities who asked what was needed: “Anything that allows a human being to survive”.

Tevin Andrewswho was on Friday on the devastated island of Carriacou, where Beryl made its first landfall as the earliest Category 4 storm in the history of the Atlantic hurricane season, also responded to a question about whether there was any flat ground for aid workers to set up tents: “The whole island was flattened”.

Simon Springett, the UN’s top humanitarian official for the eastern Caribbean and Barbados, who took Andrews’ call and relayed his remarks to UN correspondents, said he did not want to sound exaggerated, “but the islands were drastically and catastrophically hit”.
