Haiti’s transitional council will work to hold elections in 2026

Prince Port – The president of the Presidential Transition Council, Edgard Leblanc Filselected this Tuesday by the majority of members, said in his first speech that this body will work to hold elections within the scheduled time, so that the country has a new president on February 7, 2026.

“Important decisions must be made, first of all in terms of security, to free the country from the actions of people who are causing so much suffering and so many victims”declared Leblanc Fils.

He recalled that since last March 11, the Caribbean Community (Caricom) and the international community have accompanied political actors, civil society and the private business sector to reach a consensus in search of ending the deep crisis in the country has been in since the assassination of the president Jovenel Moisein July 2021.

“This morning we publicly recognize the suffering of all the victims, of the displaced, of the girls and women who were raped, of the people whose homes have been burned, of the businessmen who have lost their businesses,” the new president of the Council has expressed.
