Harvey Weinstein asks California court to overturn his conviction and grant him a new trial

The former American film producer Harvey Weinstein today asked an appeals court in California to annul his conviction for rape and sexual assault, for which he was sentenced to serve 16 years in prison, and request a new trial.

The request of someone who was a respected producer, and now fallen from grace, arises after last April the New York Court of Appeals annulled his 23-year sentence in this city due to errors in the 2020 judicial process.

The New York judicial process ended with a sentence of 23 years in prison and marked the birth of the movement of #MeToo.

The ruling of this court, from which there is no appeal, is based on the fact that the judge improperly called several women who considered themselves victims of the producer to testify as witnesses, when the accusations they made were not part of the facts tried. .
