Helicopter crash in which Iranian president died was due to a “technical failure”

Tehran – The helicopter crash in which the Iranian president died, Ebrahim Raisiwas due to a “technical failure,” reported the state agency IRNA, while a commission has been created to investigate the cause of the incident.

The state media, however, did not offer more information regarding the causes of the accident that occurred on Sunday in the mountainous area of ​​the Varzeqan region, in the province of East Azerbaijan.

The crashed helicopter was an American ‘Bell 212’, twin-engine and with capacity for 15 people, acquired in 1970, according to the Hamshahri newspaper.

Iran has an old fleet of airplanes and helicopters since it has not had easy access to new models since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979.
